What happens when dance and technology become part of the same creative process? During this evening, Another Kind of Blue presents two explorations: a choreography developed using the experimental Kandinsky app, and Zoja’s research into the interaction between a dancer and a swarm of drones.
Kandinsky — from improvisation to choreography
What happens when you use an app to capture improvisation and create a choreography from it?
In this presentation, you will see the result of a creative process in which dancers worked with Kandinsky, an experimental choreographic tool being developed by Another Kind of Blue. The choreography emerged through play, drawing, making choices and reinterpreting movement, rather than from pre-set steps. An intriguing interplay between body and technology.
Kandinsky does not generate choreography or take over the creative process. Instead, the tool helps dancers and choreographers capture ideas, explore new possibilities and move between improvisation and composition.
During the presentation, you will see the result of this creative process and learn more about Kandinsky and how the dancers worked with it.
Curious about how drawing, music and movement come together in Kandinsky? Watch the short video for a first impression of the app and the creative process:

Research presentation by Zoja — dance and drones
While Kandinsky helps capture and reinterpret movement ideas, Zoja explores how technology can move and respond alongside a dancer.
Her research explores different modes of drone movement in a duet with a dancer. Rather than following a pre-programmed choreography, the drones generate their own movements in real time. These modes range from independent swarm behaviour to a highly reactive duet, in which the drones mirror and respond to the flow of the dancer’s movement.
In her research presentation, Zoja shares how these different modes shape the interaction between dancer and drones.
Who is this for?
For dancers, dance teachers, makers, choreographers and anyone curious about improvisation, choreography and the relationship between dance and technology.
